Brilliant Round
The circular form of the Brilliant Round diamond exhibit the most “fire” and brilliance, which makes this shape diamond the most popular. In order for the diamond cutter to achieve the perfect round diamond much of the original rough must be cut off and polished which is why round diamond are priced relatively higher then all the other shapes.

Princess Cut
The Princess-Cut is square in shape with pointed edges. This shape uses a good amount of the original diamond rough so it is usually priced more attractively than other shape stones with the same carat weight. Not to be out-shined, the princess-cut also has a great amount of fire and brilliance.

If you prefer a square shape Princess -Cut, choose a 1.00 - 1.05 ratio. If you prefer a more rectangular shape, look for a ratio of 1.10 to 1.50.

Emerald Cut
The Emerald-Cut is a step-cut stone that is perfect for accentuating a diamond’s clarity, whiteness, and luster. It is rectangular in shape with cut corners. The emerald-cut is recognized as an elegant and classic design.

For the traditional look of an Emerald-Cut, look for a ratio between 1.25 and 1.60. These dimensions allow you to fully enjoy the beautiful parallel facets and blocked corners.

Marquise Cut
A unique variation on the round shape stone is the Marquise-Cut. The marquise cut is perfect for a woman who wants an uncommon yet extraordinary ring. In addition to its’ unique beauty, it can cause the finger to appear longer and more narrow. The marquise-cut is a unique yet brilliant shape.

For a traditional Marquis-Cut look for a ratio between 1.50 and 2.25.

Radiant Cut
The Radiant-Cut is a duo cut which melds the round brilliant shape and the emerald-cut together. It is cut like a square or a rectangle with the corners cut off. Though a fairly new cut, the circular life and brilliance of the Radiant-Cut is truly exceptional.

If you prefer a longer, more rectangular shaped radiant, look for a ratio between 1.25 and 2.00. For a more squarish shape, look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.10.

Asscher Cut
The Asscher-Cut is an imperial design that mimics the look of the emerald-cut while maintaining similar brilliance to the round cut. It is step-cut like the emerald, but is usually more square in shape. Though the cutting style of the asscher-cut is fairly novel, it has undeniably classic appeal.

Look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 for the perfectly square, symmetrical silhouette that the Asscher-Cut is known for.

The Cushion-Cut is a unique shape that has been the popular choice for more than a century. The cushion-cut diamond has rounded corners and deeper facets to maximize its brilliance. Since these larger facets tend to highlight the diamond's clarity, be sure to get a diamond with at least an SI1 clarity grade. Cushion-cut diamonds are available in shapes ranging from squarish to rectangular. To find your preferred dimension, use our "length-to-width" ratio located in our interactive search and in every diamond's detail's page. The length-to-width ratio determines a diamond's outline or how it will look like from the top.

Look for a ratio between 1.00 and 1.05 for a more square shape appearance. Or, if you prefer and more rectangular shape, look for a length-to-width ratio greater then 1.15.

Pear Shape
Another variation on the round cut diamond is the Pear Shape, which is also known as the tear drop shape. Like the marquis-cut, this shape also causes the finger to appear longer and more narrow. Though some may prefer the unique appeal of a pair shape stone on a ring, this cut is used more often in other types of jewelry, such as drop earrings and necklaces. The pear shape certainly does not sacrifice brilliance for its’ unique shape.

If you prefer a wider pear-shaped diamond, look for a ratio between 1.30-1.70. For longer, more narrow pear shapes, look for a ratio between 1.70 and 2.00.

Oval Shape
The Oval Shape is another variation on the round shape stone. An oval shape center stone can cause the finger to appear longer and more narrow. This shape is perfect for those who are looking for a rare but beautiful look.

For the most attractive and brilliant Oval Shape, look for ratios between 1.30 and 1.70.

The Heart, the ultimate symbol of love, is a unique approach in choosing a stone. Though not very common in rings, the heart will always claim its’ popularity in all types of jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, and even bracelets.

Heart-shaped diamonds are usually cut to a 1.00 ratio, this is usually the most desired ratio. For a slightly longer heart-shaped diamond, look for a ratio between 1.10 and 1.20.
